Potts Mountain Burial Ground Policies

We invite you to our natural burial cemetery to both celebrate life and find peace in nature. Potts Mountain Burial Ground in Marble Hill, Georgia is an 85 acre natural and wild space where you'll find shady forests, creeks and abundant wildlife as well.

Visitor Guidelines

1. The property is open to walk-in visitors daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The address for GPS is 618 Steve Tate Hwy, Marble Hill, GA 30148. Park outside the gate and walk in as no vehicles are permitted past the gate.

2. Tours for site selections are by appointment only. Therefore, please contact us via email or call to schedule an appointment.

3. Be mindful of the natural and emerging ground cover on recent burials. Visitors must not disturb gravesites, wildlife or other visitors. Additionally, we ask you to practice "Leave No Trace" principles.

4. Prior to visiting those requiring assistance getting to and from a grave, should contact us so that we may arrange an electric cart.

Pets & Plants

5. Dogs must remain on a leash. Pet owners are responsible for their animals including clean-up and off-site removal of waste. Please ensure your dog does not disturb others.

6. All planting and grave care is conducted by Potts Mountain Burial Ground staff.

7. Planting of flowers, plants, shrubs, and trees on the gravesite or within the cemetery is not permitted. If you would like to contribute to wildflower planting events, please contact us for more information.

8. Pruning, weeding or other removal of plant materials on or near the gravesite is prohibited.

Assumption of Risk

9. Potts Mountain will not be responsible for any injury, death, or damage to personal property that may occur due to either proper use or intentional misuse of its property.

10. Potts Mountain is a natural place and as such visitors assume all risks associated with potential hazards that may be found there. These include but are not limited to slip, trip and fall hazards, uneven terrain and paths, holes, wet grass, low or fallen tree branches, falling and fallen trees, etc. Wildlife may be present.

Prohibited Items

11. Alcohol and illegal drug use on Potts Mountain property is strictly prohibited.

12. Smoking is discouraged, as we are a conservation property and as such, ask you practice "Leave No Trace" principles and pack out any cigarette butts as well as any trash.

13. Firearms and weapons are strictly prohibited.

14. No vehicles such as motorcycles, bicycles, motorbikes, scooters, rollerblades, etc. are allowed on the property. Please park outside the gate and walk in.

Green Burial Regulations

1. Interments are pre-scheduled and require advance notice.

2. No burial shall be performed unless the death has been registered and the proper documentation is supplied to Potts Mountain. All necessary interment forms are to be signed by the next of kin or an authorized agent prior to any interment.

3. Toxic chemicals such as formaldehyde are not allowed. No cremated remains shall be buried or scattered.

4. All cemetery charges and fees must be paid in full before an interment can occur.

5. Potts Mountain may postpone or reschedule any interment service at its discretion due to severe weather conditions or other conditions beyond our control and the cemetery shall not be held liable for any costs incurred.

Caskets & Coverings

1. Caskets and optional shrouds must be made from naturally biodegradable materials approved by Potts Mountain in accordance with GBC standards (wicker, willow, unfinished wood, etc.).

2. A fabric burial shroud may be used with a casket providing it has been made of naturally biodegradable materials.

3. Non-organic materials, such as metal, jewelry, plastic, concrete, or synthetic materials are not permitted to be buried or placed in or on the gravesites.

Memorial Markers

1. While gravestones are not permitted, each pre-need and interred gravesite will be marked with an azimuth stone. These marble markers are quarried right here in Georgia. To that end, the stone will serve as an added tool for ensuring you've located your loved one's gravesite.

2. Potts Mountain encourages the preservation and reinvigoration of the natural landscape. Therefore, the erection of monuments, fences, decorative stones upon burial sites are not allowed.

3. Plastic flowers arrangements, vases, photographs, manmade or manufactured items may not be left on a gravesite or cemetery property. However, cut flowers without foam or plastic holders/accents are permitted.
