Planning a Burial

PMBG Offers Immediate & Pre Need Burials

Do you require assistance with immediate needs or to make pre-arrangements? Call Potts Mountain Burial Ground at (706) 273-9173, and our staff will walk you through either process.

Immediate Burial Need

PMBG offers immediate need burials for sudden losses. If a death occurs at home, call the local sheriff, hospice, or your physician who will certify the death. Georgia law requires human bodies be refrigerated within 24 hours – generally at a funeral home.

Once your loved one is safely transported to the funeral home, there is no rush for burial. But we urge you to contact Potts Mountain Burial Ground at (706) 273-9173 to discuss funeral wishes and final interment if pre-arrangements have not been made.

Our conservation cemetery staff will support you with personalized care, attention to detail, and a deeply compassionate approach throughout this difficult journey.

Pre-Need Planning

PMBG offers pre-need or pre-arrangements for future burials. Advance funeral planning offers peace-of-mind, ensures your wishes are followed, and eases the burden for loved ones. In addition, it often offers cost savings. We provide personalized care and attention, with a deeply compassionate approach throughout this journey. Begin by exploring the information on our website to learn more about natural burial, and then schedule a planning session with us. During this meeting, we will:

- Explore your end-of-life wishes
- Select your burial plot(s)
- Discuss a burial tailored for you
- Provide a planning guide to document your wishes and share with your family

Planning for a Green Burial

Is simplified at Potts Mountain Burial Ground.

Caskets

Loved ones are laid to rest in an earth-honoring way: wrapped in an shroud (optional) and transported/interred in caskets constructed entirely of renewable, biodegradable material. Chiefly, these vessels are free from metals, paints, varnishes, and synthetic adhesives.

Tangible, Handcrafted Beauty

Woven fiber caskets handcrafted from willow, bamboo, seagrass, or rattan offer not only structural integrity but an organic aesthetic that combines simple elegance with minimal environmental footprint. Unlike traditional coffins, natural caskets offer an environmentally friendly footprint.

Shroud as Sacred Embrace

For some, adding a shroud offers a quiet and profound farewell. Basically they are often custom‑made or lovingly home‑crafted from natural fabrics like muslin, organic cotton, linen, hemp, or bamboo. Then shrouded bodies are laid to rest in a willow casket.

Funeral Services and Celebration of Life

Families may plan and direct a graveside service or arrange a graveside service through Roper Funeral Home in Jasper, Georgia. Funeral and memorial services may be held onsite, or in one’s church, synagogue, mosque, or temple.

Please encourage those in your burial party to dress as they might for a walk in the woods—wearing sturdy walking shoes or hiking boots. Accordingly, dress shoes are not practical. Attendees should dress for the weather expected on the day of the service. Our sturdy, four-wheeled antique cart transports the deceased to the grave site safely while attendees follow behind. For those in your party needing assistance, a battery operated golf cart can be made available.

Families are welcome to plan a Celebration of Life following the burial at The Conservancy at Potts Mountain in Marble Hill, or The Conservancy in downtown Jasper. Contact us for more information about facility rentals.
